Cure for Hot Flashes
What are hot flashes?
Hot flashes are a common term for most women experiencing menopause. They are caused by the hormonal changes every women undergoes during this period of their lives, but can also be affected or worsen by the woman’s lifestyle (diet, exercise, and use of medical or recreational drugs).
Hot flashes are a very common symptom of menopause. Even though each woman seem to experience hot flashes in a very different and unique way, most will agree to describe them as a very sudden and intense feeling of heat that spread allover their bodies starting in their chest and spreading thought their necks and face. Furthermore this heat feeling is later accompanied by a rapid heart palpitation and intense sweating, besides nausea, dizziness, anxiety, headache, weakness, or even a feeling of suffocation. Some women say to experience an "aura," or an uneasy feeling just before the hot flash, that lets them know an episode is about to begin.
But what exactly happens in our bodies when we are experiencing a “hot flash”? It is said that the drop of estrogen is what confuses the hypothalamus (referred to as our body’s “thermostat”). Our brain instantly responds by transmitting a “heat” message to our heart, blood vessels, and nervous system to relief the heat. The message is then transmitted by the nervous system’s chemical called epinephrine. Once the message is delivered our hearts pump faster (palpitations), our blood vessels dilate so that more blood circulates to get rid off the heat (causing redness), as well as sweat glands activate to release sweat in order to cool our bodies off (night sweats).
The classic hot flash last an average of 2-3 minutes. They seem to be more common during perimenopause (the period before the menstruation cycle completely stops), and usually occur every 2 to 4 hours.
Alarmingly, hot flashes occur in at least 40% of women during the menopause transition; and in up to 85% of women after they have experienced menopause.
The Cure for Hot Flashes
Throughout all our lives, our body experience different changes, starting with adolescence or puberty when our bodies develop also with the help of increasing and decreasing hormones. Later, women experience menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause. During these times, our bodies hormones also increase and decrease. However, our bodies also have the ability to bring our hormones back to its regular levels. Unfortunately, if our bodies are not strong enough, its ability to regulate our hormones decreases. By strong we mean healthy, and for healthy we need the right nutrients, amount of exercise, sleep time, and a healthy life style in overall.
As widely known a body’s ability to keep hormones in balance also depends on key nutrients. Some popular supplements to aid our body’s hormonal system are vitamin B6, zinc, magnesium, and essential fats. There is also Peruvian-Maca, a root with a fast-growing popularity due to its ability to regulate hormones. This amazing supplement have been proven to directly affect the endocrine system (which regulates hormones) and is also said to be very nutritious as it is very rich in vitamins (higher in calcium than milk). Furthermore, Beta-carotene, Selenium, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Zinc, Fatty Acids, Pycnogenol, Goldenseal, Calcium, Royal Jelly, and Ginkgo Biloba are among the recommended products. Do some research on each of these supplements to determine which ones are the most suitable for your system.
Do not limit your hot flashes cure (or menopausal symptoms recovery) to supplement intake. Even though this is one of the most important aspects to consider, is not the only one. Changing your lifestyle alone can drastically help to aid your symptoms. For instance, if you smoke, STOP! Smoking and other non healthy habits contribute to the inability of our system to balance its hormones. So does our unhealthy eating habits, and the lack of exercise.
Increase your exercise routine (if you do not have one start one today!), stop the use of recreational drugs and cigarettes if it is the case, and add healthy nutritious supplements to your daily diet. You will notice a dramatic decrease in the severity of your hot flashes and menopausal symptoms by all means!
